William Hoyt

Captain William D. Hoyt, 35, of Redstone Arsenal died Friday while on active duty in the U.S. Army. Survivors include his wife, Shannon; sons, Drew and Kyle; parents, David and Carolyn Hoyt; grandparents, Lt. Col. Ralph and Ann Lind; sister, Amy Ann Hoyt; and parents-in-law, Marti and Terry Turner.

I wasn't even in the same battalion or company as Bill. I was in B and he was in E. But, he had one of those personalities that spanned distances and you were always glad to see him.

I miss him. He was a good soul.

As I scroll through this section of the Friends, Fellow cadets, and Alumni, I am reminded how fortunate I am to have such a bond with all of you. We may not know each other personally, like I knew Bill, from Rugby; but all of you have had an impact on my life.

I was very sad to hear about Bill and very ashamed of myself that I just recently found out. Bill, Jonathan Scrabeck and I spent three weeks together in lovely Columbus, CA in August before our senior year. Outside of Airborne school we had some of the most craziest expereinces of my life. I will always remember Bill's grin and infectious laugh. I think of him often.
